Cedric’s magical passport permits him twenty-four hours at each destination. But where should he go first?
Hawaii! Mars! Cedric’s friends have a lot of ideas, but then he thinks of the perfect place for his first journey. “I got it!” Cedric sat up enthusiastically. “I want to visit Seoul, Korea. It’s my grandmother’s birthplace. I’ve always wanted to see and learn more about her homeland.”
In Korea, Cedric explores the Gyeongbokgung Palace, and his new friends teach him their language and invite him to a special dinner at their home to enjoy authentic food and play fun games!
ABOUT THE SERIES
CedintheCity is a charming new adventure picture book series that combines teaching global diversity and customs with delightful storytelling—a perfect offering in today’s landscape. This children’s book series stars a young African-Asian-American boy on a quest to see every corner of the globe. In the first books in the series, Birthday Surprise and Happy Chuseok, a Korean Thanksgiving, author Roosevelt Edwards expertly weaves informative and exciting stories highlighting Cedric’s adventurous spirit and love for world cultures. Through cultural exploration, CedintheCity learns new life lessons, embraces the beauty in diversity, and gets exposure to a world of possibilities that only adventure and travel can teach.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Roosevelt was born in South Korea and raised in Tennessee. His debut children’s adventures series is a tribute to his late nephew, Cedric Hutchison II, also known as “CedintheCity,” whose travels around the world and his thrill-seeking and generous spirit inspired the writings of these books. Roosevelt hopes that by highlighting other cultures and parts of the world, the CedintheCity series will encourage young readers to learn more about travel and the people around them and that they instill a lifelong love of reading.
ABOUT CEDRIC HUTCHISON II (aka CedintheCity)
Cedric Hutchison II was an African-Asian-American educator and travel enthusiast. Cedric’s legend began in August 2016, when he combined his passions for travel and education with teaching English in Beijing. Having never lived outside of the United States, Cedric unknowingly embarked on a journey of self-discovery that would take him to over 30 countries in under three years. Through his travels, he grew to appreciate different cultures and used those experiences to have a lasting impact on children he taught in China, teenagers in the Czech Republic, and young adults in Malaysia before he tragically passed away in 2019 at the age of 27.
We honor Cedric’s legacy through the CedintheCity adventure series with hopes of inspiring the next generation. In his memory, may they encourage you to dream big, put action behind fear, never give up, and be legendary in all you do!
